This is used to heat the steel parts to 482 to 621 deg c in an atmosphere of ammonia gas and dissociated ammonia. The case depth is depending upon the time kept in the inside chamber. Nitride forming elements are used for this method. The advantage of the process is little distortion, the part can be tempered after being quenched.
